Kim Ki-hyun Strongly Denies 'Prosecutor Nomination Rumors'... "No Possibility"

Workshop for Party Branch Chairs Nationwide Held on the 2nd
Emphasis on Establishing Systematic Nomination

Kim Ki-hyun, the leader of the People Power Party, emphasized the ‘systematic nomination’ in front of the nationwide party committee chairpersons on the 2nd. He actively denied the circulating rumors of ‘prosecutor nominations.’

On the same day, Kim attended the ‘National Party Committee Chairpersons Workshop’ held at the Korea Federation of SMEs in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and stated, “We will establish and maintain a systematic nomination process so that capable and competent individuals can be nominated in next year’s general election.”

Kim continued, “Many people say prosecutors will be nominated, but that is absolutely not true,” and added, “I can say with certainty that there is no such possibility.”

He also explained, “Through a transparent systematic nomination, competitive candidates will receive our party’s nomination and confidently lead a landslide victory in the general election. As the party leader, I will fulfill my role and responsibility. Regardless of any distractions or comments from others, focus on increasing contact with the public and local residents, diligently promote the values our party holds, and have your abilities verified.”

Kim emphasized, “If everyone unites their hearts to gain support from local residents, I am confident that we will definitely win an overwhelming majority in next year’s general election. Do not be concerned about parachute nominations; instead, keep only merit-based nominations in mind.”

Secretary-General Lee Cheol-gyu also said at the workshop, “We will allow sufficient time and respect regarding party audits,” adding, “If you manage the party committees as usual without any wavering, such matters will not be an issue in the audit. We will conduct party audits in a way that identifies our shortcomings and strengthens our capabilities.”

The remarks by Kim and Secretary-General Lee are interpreted as efforts to dispel the so-called ‘prosecutor nomination rumors’ circulating in political circles. There are widespread rumors that many former prosecutors will receive nomination tickets in next year’s general election. Concerns are also emerging that current party committee chairpersons may be replaced depending on the results of the party audits.
