"Completely False" Regarding Reports That It Was "Finally Rejected"
Choi Jae-hae, Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, Denies "Avoiding Duties"
The Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) has stated that reports claiming the audit results on Jeon Hyun-hee, Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, were finally rejected are "completely untrue."
On the 2nd, the BAI issued a press release saying, "The claim that BAI Chairman Choi Jae-hae applied for 'recusal' and did not participate in the vote is also entirely false."
Earlier, a media outlet reported through multiple political figures that the BAI's audit results on Chairperson Jeon were finally rejected on the 1st. The BAI audit is finalized after a final resolution by the seven-member audit committee, and it was reported that the vote ended in a tie with three in favor and three against, resulting in a final rejection.
However, the BAI explained that at the audit committee meeting held the previous day, all seven audit committee members, including Chairperson Jeon, participated in reviewing and resolving the audit results, and that the results will be disclosed once follow-up measures are completed.
Meanwhile, since August of last year, the BAI has been conducting an audit focusing on Chairperson Jeon's attendance, travel expenses, and authoritative interpretations. It also requested an investigation by the prosecution on charges of abuse of authority, reporting that Chairperson Jeon inappropriately intervened during the process of announcing the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's authoritative interpretation regarding allegations of military favoritism involving the son of then Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae in September 2020. In response, Chairperson Jeon stated to reporters after the conclusion of the hearing at the BAI on the 3rd of last month, "This audit is an illegal fabricated audit and an abuse of authority audit."
