NCSoft's ambitious project, 'THRONE AND LIBERTY (THRONE AND LIBERTY, hereinafter TL),' completed its beta test on the 30th. As a flagship PC-based MMORPG released by the renowned MMORPG developer NCSoft after 11 years, it is evaluated to meet expectations.
TL is a next-generation massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) under development by NCSoft. A week-long test was conducted to gather user feedback ahead of its global launch scheduled for the second half of this year.
The atmosphere among users participating in the test is positive. Users are giving high marks not only for the technology applied to TL, such as graphics, but also for the fun elements of the content itself and the communication methods.
The first thing users noticed in the test was the external elegance. Users can move anywhere in the realistic TL world prepared as a 'seamless open world.' Customizing characters is also adjustable to a very sophisticated level.

Positive reviews about in-game combat continue. TL's unique 'dual weapon' system, which allows the simultaneous use of two weapons, offers various combinations and synergy effects, making it a subject of user research. In particular, 'boss raids,' 'regional events,' and 'guild content,' which many users enjoy cooperatively, are cited as popular content. Since MMORPGs gather many players on one server, the true value appears in cooperative content. NCSoft plans to enhance completeness based on user feedback.
Although this TL test was conducted on PC, it also supported console controllers and mobile streaming features. TL automatically applies a dedicated user interface (UI) according to the platform and connected device, enabling play tailored to preferences. Users can enjoy three types of play: ▲a controller that minimizes explanation windows and UI for immersive gameplay ▲PC that offers control advantages such as ease of operation ▲mobile for seamless play during external movement.
Choi Moon-young, head of TL development at NC PDMO, revealed a developer note before the test, stating, "This test presents the build developed so far as it is, in an environment equivalent to the actual service."
He especially disclosed the 'business model (BM)' that users were curious about, strongly expressing the intention to reflect feedback. The BM revealed through the test mainly consists of 'season passes' and 'customization.' The season pass structure allows users to earn various rewards through gameplay. It is considered a business model with low user burden. Customization, which does not significantly affect combat ability, is similar. NCSoft aims to present a business model that all global users can accept through various opinions collected during the test.
Users experienced the business model and left feedback using event coins provided during the test. The 'marketplace' to maintain the game economy system was also checked through the test. NCSoft showed confidence in TL by openly sharing development progress through developer notes and proving it in actual tests. They are determined to present a more advanced version at launch based on user feedback.
