Small Business Owners and Ppuri Companies Can Also Pay Electricity Bills in Installments... "Apply via App"

KEPCO Expands Installment Payment System for Electricity Bills from June to September
Pay Half Now, Remaining in 2-6 Monthly Installments

Small business owners and root companies will be able to pay their electricity bills in installments from this month until September.

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on the 1st that it will temporarily expand the installment payment system for electricity bills from June to September this year to alleviate the burden of increased energy costs due to the rise in cooling demand during the summer season.

Previously, only some residential customers could apply, but the eligibility has been expanded to include small business owners and root companies (general use, industrial use, and non-residential housing) including residential customers. Individual units within collective buildings (including apartments) that pay electricity bills as part of management fees without a direct contract with KEPCO can also participate. Customers pay half of the electricity bill in the application month and choose to pay the remaining balance over a period of 2 to 6 months, considering their bill level and seasonal usage patterns.

The criteria for small business owners follow Article 2 of the Small Business Basic Act, and root companies are those engaged in six foundational processes (casting, mold, heat treatment, welding, surface treatment, heat treatment) and eight next-generation process technologies (injection and press, precision processing, additive manufacturing, industrial film and paper processes, robotics, sensors, industrial intelligent software, engineering design).

Customers who have a direct electricity usage contract with KEPCO can apply directly through the 'KEPCO:ON' platform (application), while individual apartment units and commercial customers within collective buildings who pay electricity bills as part of management fees can apply through the management office. However, there must be no outstanding bills at the time of application, and monthly applications are required for installment payments. The installment period for individual units in collective buildings such as apartments is fixed at 6 months.

Small business owners and root companies with contracted power exceeding 20 kW (for collective commercial buildings, electricity bills exceeding 350,000 KRW included in management fees) must obtain a certificate from the relevant institution to verify eligibility and submit it to KEPCO.

KEPCO also encourages voluntary electricity consumption reduction through services such as bill prediction simulations. All customers registered with KEPCO:ON will receive forecasts of next month’s expected electricity bills and estimated charges based on usage by home appliances. Residential customers with high summer electricity consumption will be informed in early June about expected bills for this summer (July to September) and ways to reduce electricity costs.

Additionally, all customers with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) installed will receive real-time electricity usage, real-time estimated charges, as well as electricity usage goal setting and overuse alert functions through the Power Planner app. A KEPCO official stated, "For industrial and general customers with high electricity usage who use seasonal and time-of-use rates, we will provide electricity bill consulting report services that analyze consumption patterns and charges, and offer improvement plans and cost-saving effects."
