On the 30th, a Facebook page delivering news from Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do called 'Yangju Daesin Jeonhaedeuryeoyo' posted a message asking people not to use and to report if they see anyone putting hydrochloric acid into apartment complex mailboxes disguised as cleansing foam in Deokjeong-dong.

Then, on the morning of the 31st, a post accompanied by a photo appeared stating "It is indeed hydrochloric acid" and warning, "It was found in mailboxes and adults are handing it out, so do not accept it and report it."

The photo shows a cleansing agent labeled with the phrase "Mix with cleansing foam at a 1:1 ratio before washing your face." Below the phrase, a contact number for inquiries is also provided.

The post and photo spread across various communities, including Yangju-si’s mom cafes, along with messages urging people to "never accept or open it if given to children." Netizens responded with comments such as "What is going on?" and "Why on earth would someone do this?"

However, police confirmed that the rumor was unfounded. A representative from the Yangju Police Station stated, "A company distributed samples of a new facial cleanser product to residents to try," and added, "Forensic analysis showed it was not hydrochloric acid." The police are also investigating how the rumor spread.
