With Chairman Han Sang-hyuk of the Korea Communications Commission dismissed from his position, Standing Commissioner Kim Hyo-jae will serve as acting chairman.
On the 31st, the Korea Communications Commission announced that, in accordance with Article 6, Paragraph 4 of the Act on the Establishment and Operation of the Korea Communications Commission and Article 5, Paragraph 2 of the Rules on the Operation of the Korea Communications Commission Meetings, Standing Commissioner Kim Hyo-jae will act as the chairman of the commission.
Following President Yoon Seok-yeol’s approval of Chairman Han’s dismissal the previous day, the commission now consists of three standing commissioners: Kim Hyo-jae, Lee Sang-in, and Kim Hyun. When the chairman position is vacant, the vice chairman usually acts as the chairman, but since former Vice Chairman Ahn Hyung-hwan’s retirement, no successor has been appointed. Therefore, among the standing commissioners, the eldest, Kim Hyo-jae, will act as chairman.
Article 6, Paragraph 4 of the Act on the Establishment and Operation of the Korea Communications Commission stipulates that if the chairman is unable to perform duties due to unavoidable reasons, the vice chairman and commissioners, in the order predetermined by the commission, shall act on behalf of the chairman. Article 5, Paragraph 2 of the Rules on the Operation of the Korea Communications Commission Meetings states that if the chairman cannot perform duties due to unavoidable reasons, the vice chairman and the commissioners, in order of seniority, shall act as the chairman respectively.
