Three Final Candidates for Yeo's Supreme Council Member By-election... Two Disqualified in Eligibility Screening

Debate on 5th... Nationwide Committee Vote on 9th

The People Power Party's Supreme Council By-election Election Management Committee conducted a qualification review of six registered candidates and announced the final three candidates.


On the morning of the 31st, the Election Management Committee held a plenary meeting at the National Assembly and announced that former youth spokesperson Kim Garam, Seoul City Council member Lee Jongbae, and former People Power Party 1st Convention Supreme Council candidate Cheon Gangjeong advanced to the main election. This by-election is being held due to the voluntary resignation of former Supreme Council member Tae Youngho.

Previously, during the two-day candidate registration from the 29th to the 30th, a total of six candidates registered, including the three mentioned above, Hyundai Motor employee Kim Hangoo, Korea Freedom Federation director Kim Youngsoo, and writer Jeong Donghee.


Election Committee member Bae Hyunjin explained to reporters after the meeting, "We conducted the cut-off based on the disqualification criteria used in the previous election." Bae also stated, "Candidate Kim Hangoo voluntarily withdrew his registration."


From the announcement of the main election candidates by the Election Management Committee, candidates can begin their election campaigns. They will participate in a debate broadcast live on the People Power Party's YouTube channel 'Oreun Sori' on the 5th of next month, and the final winner will be decided through a nationwide committee vote on the 9th.
