Despite North Korea's Projectile News, Foreigners "Lion"... KOSPI Nears 2600 Point

On the 31st, the domestic stock market is not affected by North Korea's space launch vehicle launch. Rather, it continues its upward trend due to foreign investors' buying momentum.


As of 9:20 a.m. that day, the KOSPI index was trading at 2594.22, up 8.7 points (0.34%) from the previous day. Foreign investors are net buyers with 138.6 billion KRW, while individuals and institutions are net sellers with 73.4 billion KRW and 68.9 billion KRW, respectively.

Before the market opened, there was heightened anxiety that volatility could increase due to a warning alert issued because of North Korea's space launch vehicle, but as it turned out to be a false alarm, the market is showing a stable trend. By sector, transportation equipment, steel and metals, medical precision, electrical and electronics, finance, and securities are showing slight gains. On the other hand, non-metallic minerals, pharmaceuticals, paper and wood, and construction are in slight decline.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, LG Energy Solution and Hyundai Mobis are up by over 2%. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which had been on a recent upward trend, are showing slight declines as they take a breather. In addition, most large-cap stocks such as LG Chem, Samsung SDI, Hyundai Motor, Kia, and POSCO Holdings are showing slight gains.


The KOSDAQ index is trading at 854.29, up 2.79 points (0.33%) from the previous day. Individuals and institutions are net buyers with 13.9 billion KRW and 37.4 billion KRW, respectively, while foreign investors are net sellers with 55.9 billion KRW. By sector, finance is up over 2%, and entertainment culture, telecommunications and broadcasting services, food and tobacco, paper and wood, and textiles and apparel are showing slight gains. Meanwhile, distribution, KOSDAQ IT, IT hardware, and IT software are in slight decline.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro BM and EcoPro, the leading second battery stocks on KOSDAQ, are rebounding by 2-3%. L&F, in the same sector, is also up over 3%. Entertainment stocks such as JYP Ent. and SM are rising by 2-4%.


Stocks showing strength due to the impact of North Korea's launch vehicle are also attracting attention. Representative examples include Pyeonghwa Industry, Eightone, SNT Dynamics, and Welcron.


Meanwhile, the won/dollar exchange rate started trading at 1,321 won, down 3.9 won from the previous day.
