Metaverse DX Study Held
Differentiation by Introducing 'Trust'-Based AI NPC
KT is focusing on the role of the metaverse as a killer app for generative artificial intelligence (AI) and is accelerating the development of the business-to-consumer (B2C) metaverse platform 'Geniverse'.
On the 30th, KT held a Metaverse DX study session and introduced its B2C metaverse strategy featuring generative AI and digital twin technology.
Since March, KT has been running a pilot service of the metaverse 'Geniverse'. The current number of downloads is about 46,000. With the recent cooling of the metaverse craze and as a latecomer, KT must carve out a niche among leading companies. KT plans to differentiate its service through generative AI and digital twin technology.

The generative AI introduced in Geniverse includes 'AI M.I.M (Message·Image·Motion)' and AI NPC (Non-Player Character) functions. AI M.I.M analyzes context such as emotions based on user-input text and generates multimedia messages and backgrounds. Users can also create unique avatar motions to generate content. This significantly reduces the enormous costs required to create backgrounds and objects individually within the metaverse.
NPCs in games that usually repeat the same phrases become more diverse in Geniverse. In the second half of this year, an AI NPC based on the super-large AI 'Mideum' will be introduced. It will freely utilize text, emotions, and motions, enabling customized responses such as professional counseling or consolation. Professor Kim Ju-ho of KAIST said, "In a situation where generative AI needs a killer app, the metaverse has the potential to play that role. For example, when a user gets lost, it can provide customized guidance without repeating obvious tutorials, responding appropriately to the situation."
By collaborating with third parties, AI NPCs can offer users new experiences and create value. KT has pilot-tested product placement (PPL) in Geniverse. Users can watch PPL in TV dramas and then experience the products in the metaverse.
KT differentiates itself with 'AI HomeTwin' technology that implements digital twin spaces. When a user inputs the address of their actual apartment, 'Genihome' is created based on the real space blueprint. Various spaces such as classrooms can also be implemented. Although a concrete revenue model has not yet been discovered, KT is considering implementing offline stores in Geniverse. Currently, a cafe near KT Convergence Technology Institute has been created in Geniverse, and a service is being tested where users order in the metaverse and pick up products at the store.
Won Jong-seo, head of the AI Metaverse CX Planning Team at KT Convergence Technology Institute, stated, "Geniverse ultimately aims to establish itself as a customer experience innovation platform. We want AI technology to be used appropriately and timely in the metaverse and to promote technology-driven services through the super-large AI 'Mideum' service."
