Ministry of Employment and Labor: "64% of Regulatory Innovation Tasks Improved Over One Year"

Employment and Labor Regulatory Innovation Performance Report Meeting Held on the 30th
"133 out of 207 Tasks Improved"

The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 30th that it has identified 207 regulatory innovation tasks in the employment and labor sector over the past year and has completed improvements on 133 of them, accounting for 64%.

On the same day, the Ministry held the "Employment and Labor Regulatory Innovation Performance Report Meeting with the People" in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, marking one year of government-wide regulatory innovation. About 60 participants, including citizens, companies, and associations, attended the event.

As examples of field changes reported by citizens in various sectors, a kimchi factory owner shared that the foreign employment permit system, which was significantly revised for the first time in 20 years, helped alleviate labor shortages. They evaluated that this year’s expansion of foreign workforce introduction and the increase in employment limits reflected the demands from the field.

A semiconductor company reported that clarifying the application targets for the oil containment barrier (턱) saved approximately 12.5 billion KRW in installation costs, and that eliminating the burden of submitting duplicate documents for subcontracted hazardous work on the same equipment improved work efficiency. A explosives company also expected a reduction in explosion accidents as safety standards for the latest technologies such as electronic blasting were established for the first time in 30 years.

A vocational training officer from a small and medium-sized enterprise mentioned that previously, approval was required for each individual training course, but now training can be opened by submitting an annual training plan once a year, which has increased the completion rate. Workers participating in training were previously required to attend at least 80% of the course, but now they can selectively attend only the necessary parts, and short courses (short-form content) under 10 minutes are also recognized as training, allowing more efficient use of time. Disabled workers praised the improvement allowing them to apply for assistive technology devices not only through their employers but also directly, which helps in selecting the desired devices.

Deputy Minister Kwon Ki-seop promised, "We will carefully examine unreasonable and inconvenient points from the public’s perspective and will swiftly and actively fulfill the government’s role necessary to resolve them."
