Foreign Shareholders Paid 9.0235 Trillion Won, Individuals Paid 8.6569 Trillion Won
The Korea Securities Depository announced on the 30th that the total dividend amount of listed companies (KOSPI and KOSDAQ) for last year's settlement recorded 28.5282 trillion won, a decrease of 2.0348 trillion won (6.7%) compared to the previous year. The number of companies that paid cash dividends increased by 15 from the previous year to 1,170 companies.
Corporations in the securities market (568 companies) paid 26.3732 trillion won, down 7% from the previous year, while corporations in the KOSDAQ market (602 companies) paid 2.155 trillion won, down 1.6%.
Looking at the dividend payment status by industry, holding companies paid 3.7843 trillion won, accounting for the highest proportion (13.3%). This was followed by semiconductor manufacturing with 3.155 trillion won (11.1%), automobile engine and automobile manufacturing with 2.9766 trillion won (10.4%), and non-life insurance with 1.0169 trillion won (3.6%).
Among the companies that paid the most dividends, Samsung Electronics (2.453 trillion won) was the highest in the securities market, and Rino Industrial (455 billion won) was the highest in the KOSDAQ market. In the securities market, the top 10 companies in shareholder dividends paid 9.9887 trillion won, accounting for 37.9% of the total dividends in the securities market (26.3732 trillion won). The top 10 companies in shareholder dividends in the KOSDAQ market paid 292.9 billion won, accounting for 13.6% of the total dividends in the KOSDAQ market (2.155 trillion won).
The largest recipients of dividends were domestic corporations with 10.8478 trillion won (38%). This was followed by foreigners with 9.0235 trillion won (31.6%) and domestic individuals with 8.6569 trillion won (30.4%). Dividends paid to foreign shareholders decreased by 716.4 billion won (9.2%) compared to the previous year. In the securities market, 568 companies paid 8.776 trillion won in dividends, down 9.2% from the previous year. In the KOSDAQ market, 247.5 billion won in dividends were paid, a decrease of 11.4% during the same period. By nationality, shareholders from the United States received 3.8325 trillion won, accounting for 42.5% of the total dividends. This was followed by the United Kingdom (746.3 billion won) and Singapore (532.6 billion won).
Among individual shareholders, those in their 50s and 60s received 55.5% of the domestic individual dividend payments. By age group, those in their 50s received the highest proportion with 2.7427 trillion won (31.7%), followed by those in their 60s with 2.0621 trillion won (23.8%).
