Photo Signed by Hitler Also Up for Auction
A pencil believed to have been given by Adolf Hitler of Nazi Germany to his lover has gone up for auction in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
According to the British daily newspaper The Guardian on the 29th (local time), the pencil, which will be auctioned on the 6th of next month, is presumed to have been a gift from Eva Braun, who was Hitler's long-time lover and married him just before their joint suicide, to Hitler on his 52nd birthday on April 20, 1941.

The pencil tip is engraved with Adolf Hitler's initials 'AH', and the side bears the date 'April 20, 1941' along with the name 'Eva'.
The estimated auction price for this pencil is between 50,000 and 80,000 pounds (82 million to 130 million Korean won). Eva Braun first met Hitler while working as an assistant to the official Nazi photographer at the age of 17, and it is reported that she maintained a romantic relationship with Hitler from the early to mid-1930s, several years later.
Hitler and Braun married in an underground bunker in Berlin on April 28-29, 1945, as Nazi Germany's defeat was imminent, and they took their own lives together on April 30. Because Hitler thoroughly concealed his private life, including his relationship with Braun, from the German public to maintain his heroic image, their relationship only became known after his death.
Sir Carl Bennett, director of Bloomfield Auction House, said, "This pencil helps uncover a hidden piece of history by providing a glimpse into Hitler's private relationship that he kept hidden from the public," adding, "The token of love given by Eva reveals the deception Hitler concealed behind his public persona."
In addition to the pencil, the auction also features a photograph from the late 1920s to early 1930s bearing Hitler's signature. Also up for auction is a royal pardon document from 1869, which pardoned Irish revolutionary JFX O'Brien, who was sentenced to death for treason after participating in a rebellion against British rule during the reign of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.
