Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold a commemorative event at Dangsan Neighborhood Park from 10 AM on June 2 to mark the 28th World Environment Day.

June 5 marks the 28th World Environment Day, and the district is hosting the event to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection and to spread a culture of practicing environmental protection in daily life.

This event, under the theme ‘love earth, love green,’ carries the meaning of loving the Earth amid the climate crisis and advancing Yeongdeungpo through green growth. From 10 AM to 12 PM, a commemorative ceremony, commendations for meritorious persons, and various events to raise environmental awareness will be held.

First, the district will present certificates of appreciation to 10 individuals and organizations from various social sectors who have made significant contributions to environmental conservation.

Additionally, the district, together with the 2050 Carbon Neutral Citizens Practice Group and the Municipal Mullae Youth Center, will offer various hands-on experiences including ▲self-powered cotton candy and soap bubble making ▲coloring curling walls ▲making mini traditional fans and pest-repellent cinnamon garlands ▲creating marine upcycling necklaces.

There will also be an event where participants can leave pledges for the Earth using QR codes. Participants will be entered into a draw to receive small prizes.

Alongside this, the district will conduct promotional activities to reflect on the meaning of environmental protection, such as energy saving, reducing single-use products, eco-mileage guidance, and carbon neutrality practices to lead carbon neutrality and eco-friendly actions in daily life.

The district is committed to environmental protection in daily life by ▲distributing eco-friendly high-efficiency LED lighting to vulnerable groups such as low-income households and welfare facilities within the region ▲installing eco-friendly cooking devices (induction cookers) and cooking fume reduction devices (air purifiers indoors, dust collectors outdoors) in large-scale meal service facilities to reduce fine dust ▲installing electric vehicle charging stations linked to ESG ▲and tree planting activities in cooperation with companies.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “This year’s World Environment Day festival will be a time to raise awareness of the global crisis and to reflect on the coexistence of nature and humanity.” He added, “We hope everyone actively participates in eco-friendly daily practices such as energy saving and reducing single-use products for a healthy Earth.”
