The 1st Nowon Craft Beer Festival to be Held for Two Days on June 2-3 at Hwarangdae Railroad Park in Gongneung-dong

Taste and Purchase 150 Types of Craft Beer, Beer Docent, Various Foods Linked with Local Commercial Districts

Dynamic Duo Performance, Brand Fair, Encouragement of Reusable Containers, and Many Other Side Events and Activities

Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the Nowon Craft Beer Festival (NBF) at Hwarangdae Railroad Park on June 2-3.

The Nowon Craft Beer Festival, held for the first time this year, will take place at Hwarangdae Railroad Park in Gongneung-dong, a representative attraction of Nowon-gu and famous for the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail, from 3 PM to 10 PM on June 2 and from 1 PM to 10 PM on June 3.

The festival was planned to create a young and trendy festival brand unique to Nowon-gu by combining local attractions, commercial districts, and cultural content.

Meet 150 Types of Craft Beer from 18 Breweries Nationwide

A total of 18 breweries will participate in the Nowon Craft Beer Festival. In addition to ‘Vaneheim,’ which has been maintaining its legacy in Nowon-gu for over 19 years as a first-generation domestic craft beer brewery, and the ‘Nowon Craft Beer Cooperative’ representing Nowon, visitors can taste and purchase a total of 150 types of craft beer from famous breweries nationwide.

For this festival, local breweries collaborated to create a special signature beer (NBF). The district plans to brew a signature beer representing each year’s festival and share it with residents annually.

A beer docent program will also be operated to enhance the taste and flavor of the beer. For festival participants, the program explains the concept, origin, and brewing process of beer and offers food pairing recommendations that complement each beer, helping visitors savor and enjoy the beer.

Various Foods Prepared by Local Traditional Markets

A variety of foods to enjoy with beer have also been prepared. Since the festival is held in cooperation with local commercial districts, menus prepared and developed by local merchants from Gongneung-dong Dokkaebi Market and Sanggye Central Market will be sold at food booths and food trucks.

Additionally, a special booth featuring Bulgarian kyufte, jamon, yogurt, and pancakes made by famous chef Mikael, who has appeared on numerous cooking programs, will offer a unique experience.

Purchased beer and food can be enjoyed while moving around within Hwarangdae Railroad Park. Camping shelters, triangular wood shelters, and mat shelters have been set up throughout the park, and the main dining area, Beer Plaza, is divided into parasol zones, shade cloth zones, table zones, and standing zones, providing various types of tables for a relaxed atmosphere.

Performances and Side Events to Add Emotion to the Festival

Talk music shows and performances that enhance the taste of beer and the excitement of the festival await residents. Musicians from various genres including acoustic, rock, pop, Korean pop, and traditional Korean music will be invited so that visitors can enjoy music while drinking beer during the festival.

In particular, on June 2 at 8 PM, hip-hop duo Dynamic Duo’s performance will elevate the festival atmosphere, and on June 3, joint performances by university clubs in the area and an EDM stage will create a young and vibrant vibe.

Besides food and entertainment, there are also interesting side events and activities. The Brand Fair will introduce 30 carefully selected brands recommended by residents among various products produced and sold in Nowon-gu, selling desserts and handmade crafts.

With growing environmental awareness, each brewery and food truck encourages the use of reusable containers. Residents using personal tumblers will receive a 500 KRW discount or additional volume from each brewery as part of an event. Local environmental groups will introduce ‘Sky Water Beer,’ made with rainwater, and hold unique events such as planting barley sprouts, a raw material for beer.

Safe Festival Operation and Crowd Management

Since this is a festival where alcohol is sold, the district will pay special attention to festival operations. To prevent underage drinking, IDs will be checked at the entrance, wristbands will be distributed, and only those wearing wristbands will be allowed to purchase and taste beer, strengthening the purchase procedures.

A separate safety management plan has been established and reviewed for this festival, and emergency medical staff and safety management personnel will be stationed at the festival site throughout the event to prepare for any possible accidents.

On the day of the festival, real-time crowd density and safety precautions will be communicated through the Nowon Cultural Foundation website and blog. To assist with festival operation and crowd management, supporters composed of students from five local universities will help alongside area managers.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “The Nowon Craft Beer Festival, introduced for the first time this year, is especially meaningful as it was prepared over a long period through collaboration among local breweries, small business owners, and university students from the planning stage. We will do our best to operate the festival so that the Nowon Craft Beer Festival can become a cultural brand representing the district.”
