"There is no doubt that we are in a new era of computing." Jensen Huang, CEO of the American semiconductor company Nvidia, stated that artificial intelligence (AI) is leading a computing revolution.
According to major foreign media, CEO Huang attended a forum held in Taipei, Taiwan on the 29th (local time) and said that AI can help bridge the digital divide. He emphasized the computing revolution led by AI, saying that things that were previously impossible have now become possible through AI, and "Now everyone is a programmer. You just have to speak to the computer." At the event, he also showcased a program that composes pop songs about Nvidia with just a few commands. Huang added, "AI will have an impact on every industry."
Nvidia currently supplies more than 90% of the global market with high-value-added semiconductors such as GPUs used for AI development. Fueled by the recent AI boom, including ChatGPT, Nvidia announced first-quarter sales of $7.19 billion, exceeding market expectations by more than 10%. Furthermore, Nvidia surprised investors by projecting second-quarter sales of $11 billion, which is more than 50% above forecasts. Following this, Nvidia's stock price continued its sharp rise. Since the beginning of this year, Nvidia's stock price has increased by 160%.
However, while demand for related semiconductors is surging, supply is unable to keep up. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that the competition to secure GPUs for AI is at a level similar to the early pandemic rush for toilet paper. Securing GPUs is essential for training large language model (LLM) AI. Citing experts, the WSJ predicted that despite Nvidia increasing supply, this shortage will continue at least until next year. Earlier, Tesla CEO Elon Musk also mentioned at the WSJ Summit that "GPUs are harder to get than drugs."
