Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will conduct the "2023 Safe Gangnam Drill" at 3 PM on the 30th around COEX and the Trade Center area in Samseong-dong to establish a rapid response system in case of disasters.

This drill, planned by Gangnam-gu, is designed to check the response manuals of each organization and the inter-agency cooperation system in preparation for disaster situations occurring in densely populated facilities.

A total of 14 organizations including Gangnam-gu, Gangnam Fire Station, Gangnam Police Station, Unit 6019, WTC Seoul, and two private organizations will participate in the drill with about 500 personnel.

The drill assumes a complex disaster scenario at COEX, a multi-facility connected to underground structures, involving a large-scale fire, new types of disasters such as biological and chemical terrorism, and drone attacks causing multiple casualties.

Fifty-nine units of equipment including firefighting helicopters, life-saving drones, and state-of-the-art equipment from the 119 Special Rescue Team will be mobilized, and anti-terror military and police special units will be deployed. Each organization will closely coordinate to handle anti-terrorism and fire response, setting unexpected situations to identify and improve shortcomings.

To enhance initial disaster response capabilities, the district established a comprehensive disaster situation room in April this year and will conduct situation dissemination and reporting drills using the disaster safety communication network (PS-LTE) during this drill.

Additionally, to strengthen practical response capabilities, the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and the Integrated Support Headquarters at the disaster site will be operated simultaneously to share damage situations in real time and take necessary actions.

Furthermore, to reinforce collaboration with the private sector, fire suppression and evacuation guidance drills will be conducted with the self-defense firefighting teams within the facilities.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “We prioritize the safety of our residents and are strengthening disaster response capabilities. Through collaborative drills with related organizations and the establishment of an advanced response system, we will create a safer Gangnam.”
