Twice a year, ‘High-Temperature Sand Sterilization Support’... to protect children’s safety and health

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is drawing attention by regularly conducting safety inspections of play facilities to prevent children’s safety accidents.
The inspection targets a total of 202 locations, including 116 playgrounds in residential complexes, 43 playgrounds in parks, 28 playgrounds at daycare centers, and 6 kids cafes.
The district is striving to create a safe play environment where parents can feel at ease while children enjoy using the play facilities.
The safety inspections, conducted through a commissioned professional organization, take place once a month. The inspections mainly check the play facilities’ ▲fastening condition ▲degree of aging ▲deformation status ▲cleanliness, with particular focus on factors that are major causes of accidents during use, such as bolt tightness, paint condition, and the possibility of entrapment.
Any issues found are guided so that the management or responsible parties can take action, and facilities requiring repair undergo supplementation and maintenance.
The results of these safety inspections can be checked via QR codes. The district installs QR codes on each children’s play facility, allowing residents curious about the facility’s safety management status to access the information on site.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We are carefully monitoring children’s play facilities to prevent injuries to children, who are the future of our society,” and added, “We will continue to manage them thoroughly with a focus on prevention.”
In addition, Gwangjin-gu is making efforts to protect children’s health and safety by conducting ‘high-temperature sand sterilization’ twice a year in April and September at 17 sand playgrounds. This support aims to prevent children from being infected by various parasites or bacteria through sand.
