Daejeon City has formed a dedicated task force (TF) to support victims of jeonse fraud and will begin operations on the 1st of next month. Daejeon has the highest proportion of multi-family housing in the country, and cases of jeonse fraud continue to rise steadily.
On the 27th, Daejeon City announced that it has decided to form and operate a dedicated team to accelerate responses to jeonse fraud damage.
The task force will be led by the Deputy Mayor and consist of eight members from the Land Information Division of the Urban Housing Bureau.
The main duties of the task force include ▲measures necessary for investigating damage cases ▲plans to purchase houses affected by jeonse fraud ▲emergency housing and legal counseling for victims ▲establishing tenant protection measures such as emergency financial support.
Additionally, the team will establish a close cooperative system with related departments to provide emergency living expense support, free legal and psychological counseling, housing contract safety services, and immediate actions such as postponement of auctions and public sales.
Separately from the task force operations, Daejeon City will extend the special inspection on illegal real estate activities conducted this month until July, and will strictly punish any illegal activities detected during the inspection process with a zero-tolerance policy.
Earlier, to provide tailored support for victims of jeonse fraud, Daejeon City set up a dedicated window in the Housing Policy Division since April, through which it has provided consultations for 203 cases and issued damage confirmation certificates for 6 cases.
Furthermore, to resolve victims’ housing issues, the city has secured 59 emergency public rental housing units and is supporting low-interest loans and other assistance.
Jang Ilsun, Director of the Urban Housing Bureau of Daejeon City, stated, “Daejeon has the highest proportion of multi-family housing nationwide, and cases of jeonse fraud are steadily increasing. The city recognizes seriously that the majority of victims are ordinary citizens and that damage is concentrated among young people with little real estate transaction experience. We plan to swiftly implement countermeasures to respond to jeonse fraud damage.”
