"Seeking Opportunities in the Chinese Market"
American pharmaceutical company Moderna is reported to have registered a corporation in China.
According to foreign media on the 26th (local time), Moderna registered the corporation "Moderna (China) Biotech Co., Ltd." in Shanghai on the 24th. The capital is 100 million dollars.
Moderna has been making efforts to enter the Chinese market, but ultimately could not overcome the barrier of China using only "domestic vaccines."
A Moderna spokesperson said, "We are seeking opportunities to operate in the Chinese market and bring the power of Moderna's messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) platform to the Chinese people."
Until now, Moderna did not have a corporation on the Chinese mainland. Last year, as part of its expansion into Asia, it opened an office in Hong Kong. Among Moderna's product lineup, the only one that has reached commercialization is the COVID-19 vaccine.
