Gangnam-gu Hosts Good Job Boccia Competition for People with Disabilities

Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) held the "4th Good Job Boccia Competition for People with Disabilities" on the 26th at the Gangnam Sports Culture Center.

Hosted and organized by the Haenaem Welfare Association Good Job Independent Living Center and supported by Gangnam-gu, this competition featured 20 amateur teams with 100 athletes from Seoul and Gyeonggi regions who have severe cerebral palsy and motor disabilities, showcasing the skills they have honed over time.

Boccia, an official Paralympic sport, is specially designed for people with brain lesions. The game is played by two teams throwing balls on a smooth floor court to score points, with a gameplay style similar to the winter sport curling.

On this day, the district presented appreciation plaques to SR and AMG Korea, who have been sponsoring the Boccia competition since 2019. Additionally, 12 universal design award-winning products and 30 photographs were exhibited to promote awareness and improve perceptions of disabilities.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, "I hope that sports activities for people with disabilities promote health and become a driving force for a happy life," adding, "We will do our best to create a Gangnam that can accompany the approximately 15,000 people with disabilities in Gangnam-gu."
