Daewoong Pharmaceutical announced on the 25th that the cumulative sales of the continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device 'FreeStyle Libre' have exceeded 600,000 units in South Korea, three years after its domestic launch.

Unlike the traditional method of measuring blood glucose by pricking the fingertip, FreeStyle Libre involves attaching a coin-sized sensor to the arm and then holding a smartphone with the 'FreeStyle Libre Link' app installed near the sensor to check blood glucose levels. One sensor attachment allows continuous glucose monitoring for 14 days. After meals, blood glucose levels can be checked every 15 minutes for 2 hours, making it easy to track changes in glucose levels.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical explains that it is important to receive systematic blood glucose management education through healthcare professionals when using continuous glucose monitoring devices. Receiving structured education and having the CGM test results interpreted by medical staff helps patients more easily reach their target blood glucose levels and prevent complications.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical plans to continue marketing and campaign activities targeting healthcare professionals and patients to ensure that FreeStyle Libre contributes not only to effective blood glucose management for diabetic patients but also to the prevention of diabetic complications.

Lee Chang-jae, CEO of Daewoong Pharmaceutical, stated, "FreeStyle Libre can be properly utilized only when patients use it under the guidance of healthcare professionals," adding, "We will strive to prevent diabetes in the prediabetes stage and help diabetic patients prevent complications."

Meanwhile, Daewoong Pharmaceutical recently has been using iCoop’s chronic disease management platform 'DoctorVice' to enable healthcare professionals to monitor blood glucose records of diabetic patients using FreeStyle Libre and develop personalized management plans for each patient. Additionally, in collaboration with the digital healthcare startup Humanscape, they are conducting a blood glucose management campaign for pregnant women to support healthy childbirth.
