The police resumed training for dispersing illegal assemblies and protests and apprehending offenders on the 24th, after six years.
According to the police on that day, the National Police Agency decided to conduct 'training for the National Police Agency and police units of each city and province' from that day until July 14. This is the first police training for dispersing illegal assemblies in 6 years and 2 months since March 2017.
After last week's 1-night 2-day 'sleep-in protest' by the Construction Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the ruling party and government demanded a tough response to illegal assemblies, prompting the police to swiftly prepare an implementation plan.
The training will involve about 12,000 officers from 131 riot police companies nationwide. It is known that the training will focus on forcibly dispersing and apprehending in scenarios where orders to disperse are ignored. Additionally, training will be conducted to respond to violations of noise regulations, such as confiscation of broadcasting equipment.
Along with the training, the police have also begun work to improve the assembly response manual for more effective dispersal of illegal assemblies.
