Movie 'Moon Jae-in Imnida', Received Support Funds During Moon Jae-in's Presidency

Application for the 2nd Half of 2021 Public Project... Selection in November
Proposal 'Director's Strengths' Mention "Connection with President Moon"
Planning Intent "To Be Dedicated to President Moon Jae-in"

The documentary film 'Moon Jae-in Imnida,' which depicts the daily life of former President Moon Jae-in after his retirement, was revealed to have received 100 million won after being selected for a film production support project during Moon's presidency.

According to data submitted by the Jeonju International Film Festival Organizing Committee to Kim Seung-soo, a member of the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee from the People Power Party, 'Moon Jae-in Imnida' applied for the Jeonju Cinema Project public contest in the second half of 2021 and was finally selected in November of that year. A total of 30 works were submitted to the contest, but only three were chosen.

At the time, the production team reportedly emphasized the connection between director Lee Chang-jae and former President Moon Jae-in, as well as their acquaintance with the Blue House, as the 'director's special strengths' in the project proposal. They explained ▲the relationship from 2013 when Moon Jae-in was party leader and watched Lee's film 'On the Road,' leaving a post on Twitter ▲the connection from greeting the president who attended the 40th anniversary ceremony of the Bu-Ma Democratic Protests as the general director of the event.

The production team stated, "Based on the trust built over 18 years as a professor at Chung-Ang University, we prevented potential security issues and disturbances that could arise if another director filmed at the Blue House."

Regarding the film's planning intent, they said, "'A world where people live' started with people-centered democracy, which expands and realizes into Moon Jae-in's Blue House where 'people come first,' inviting the public through the film," and expressed that "it will be a tribute to former President Roh Moo-hyun and Moon Jae-in returning to being a private citizen."

They also mentioned the expected effect, stating, "We will distribute the excellence of the Moon Jae-in administration, which quietly walks a path no one has taken while maintaining the identity of the democratic government forged by the Candlelight Revolution, through global OTT channels."

At the time, the organizing committee said, "There are concerns that the work repeatedly shows political colors, but telling such stories is the character of the Jeonju International Film Festival," and added, "There are worries about whether a feature film with political values and attitudes can be interesting, but the pre-planning is solid and there is ample preparation time, so the completeness of the work is expected," explaining the reason for selecting 'Moon Jae-in Imnida.'

The internal judging panel of the selection committee at that time consisted of six members. Among them, Executive Committee Chair Lee Joon-dong signed a declaration of support from 253 filmmakers for Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung in February last year.
