Chungnam, Establishment of Industrial Metaverse Platform

Chungnam Province will invest 20 billion KRW over three years to build an industrial metaverse platform.

On the 24th, Chungnam Province announced that it was recently selected as the preferred negotiator in the Ministry of Science and ICT’s ‘Metaverse Leading Project Competition’ and will begin promoting the ‘Eco-friendly Small and Medium-sized Ships’ and ‘Industrial Complex Advancement Project’ starting next month.

The project focuses on solving various issues in industrial sites by integrating information and communication technologies (ICT) such as extended reality and digital twins with existing industries.

The core of the eco-friendly small and medium-sized ships project is to establish a testbed where research and development on eco-friendly ships can be conducted in a virtual environment.

Considering the increasing importance of carbon neutrality in the shipping industry due to strengthened international marine environmental regulations, the project aims to overcome physical constraints such as evaluation space and time, and marine operating environments by creating digital twins of actual ships and marine environments to simulate and test the performance of eco-friendly technologies, thereby enhancing the reliability and effectiveness of these technologies.

The industrial complex advancement project will be promoted by creating an industrial metaverse platform and content to improve industrial productivity.

The project goal is to install Internet of Things (IoT) sensors in product processes, reflect sensor signals in real time on digital twins, monitor for any issues in the production process in real time, analyze the data, and derive the optimal process.

Chungnam Province plans to enable remote collaboration and workplace safety monitoring based on extended reality through these projects, aiming to prevent human errors and industrial accidents occurring at industrial sites and to enhance productivity and work efficiency.

Through this, Chungnam will create a successful model of industrial convergence metaverse and lead advanced future technologies.”
