Gyeonggi Office of Education Takes Initiative to Revitalize Elementary School Physical Education

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has taken steps to strengthen the promotion of physical education in elementary schools.

On the 24th, the Gyeonggi Office of Education announced that it is building a network with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Sports Council, and local governments to enhance support for physical education.

Earlier in March, the Gyeonggi Office of Education held a 'Visiting Elementary Physical Education Policy Briefing' for school principals, vice principals, and teachers in the province, fostering a consensus on the importance of school physical education for basic fitness and relationship building.

Since then, to strengthen the physical education curriculum, it has been implementing programs such as ▲ practical survival swimming education ▲ cooperative classes in eight sports disciplines with elementary sports experts ▲ operation of after-school elementary sports clubs ▲ support projects for playground floor paintings by the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation.

Additionally, it is the first among the 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education to collaborate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize and support a Ssireum (Korean wrestling) education curriculum.

Sung Jeong-hyun, head of the Physical Education and Health Division at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, said, "Physical activities can play a significant role in students' enjoyable school life," adding, "We will promote field-tailored physical education policies to help develop basic fitness and fundamental character during elementary school years and lay the foundation for lifelong physical education."

The Gyeonggi Office of Education is also supporting morning exercise on the way to school (tentative name), school sports club festivals, and IT-based physical education classes.
