Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is recruiting students to participate in media education at the Village Media Support Center it operates.
Opened in 2018, the Nowon Village Media Support Center supports residents in producing content so they can communicate through various new media channels, and offers media education on diverse topics.
One of the classes starting in June, "Challenge Podcast DJ," is a course where participants learn and practice the entire process of creating audio content?from topic exploration, scriptwriting, recording, to editing. Classes are held every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. starting June 15, spanning a total of six sessions where students can learn how to produce podcasts.
Students who wish to continue as podcasters after completing the course are supported to engage with village media organizations. Currently, there are 17 village media groups with 244 members active based at the Nowon Village Media Support Center, communicating with the community on various themes ranging from content that reads Nowon-gu newsletters for visually impaired people to culture, arts, and human programs.
Next, "One-Day Digital Drawing" is a class where participants draw using a smart pad (tablet PC). To accommodate residents with limited time, the class is offered as a one-day session on Wednesday, June 7, starting at 6:30 p.m. for about three hours.
The class theme changes monthly, focusing on subjects such as animals and people. The drawing theme for June is "Plants." Participants analyze the basic structure of plants, draw by following it, and receive feedback on their drawings. This tailored class is suitable for beginners and ideal for residents looking for a new hobby.
Additionally, the center is recruiting students for the digital camera class "Falling for Digital Cameras," which teaches technical photography skills and image storytelling and utilization through photos, as well as the video editing class "Video Editing with Gom Mix," which uses free editing software.
The center provides all necessary equipment free of charge for every class to ensure no disruption in learning even if participants do not have personal devices. Residents wishing to join the June courses can register on a first-come, first-served basis through the Nowon Village Media Support Center website by the end of May, with course fees ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 KRW depending on the class.
Moreover, from April to October, the district is running the "Care Media Classroom" at nine i-Hu Centers, after-school care centers for elementary students. This program aims to provide media experience education from an early age to help children understand the positive functions of media and prevent media addiction.
Each i-Hu Center conducts five sessions tailored to the level of lower-grade elementary students, using smart pads, hologram video devices, and experiential classes utilizing augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) equipment.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “We are conducting various media education programs to share new communication methods suitable for the new media era with residents. We will continue to strive to create an environment where residents can freely express their individuality and voices and communicate with the local community centered around the Nowon Village Media Support Center.”
