MS, Investor in 'ChatGPT', Integrates AI Assistant 'Copilot' into Windows... Preview Next Month

Microsoft (MS) has decided to integrate an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant feature into its Windows operating system.

On the 23rd (local time), MS held its annual developer conference, Build Conference, at its headquarters in Seattle, Washington, USA, and announced that starting in June, it will release a preview version of 'Windows Copilot,' an AI assistant called 'Copilot,' integrated into Windows 11. Subsequently, Windows Copilot will be made available to Windows 11 users.

Satya Nadella, MS CEO, introduced it by saying, "We are bringing Copilot to the largest canvas, Windows," and described it as "the Windows Copilot that all Windows users have been waiting for."

The introduction video released that day showed scenes of Windows Copilot integrated into Windows 11 being easily opened and used from the taskbar. This allows not only simple information searches but also changes to user settings. It also enables functions such as summarizing, rewriting, or requesting explanations of the content being viewed. Panos Panay, MS's head of Windows and Devices, explained, "If you want to plan a trip to Cyprus, you can ask Windows Copilot to find family flights and accommodations for a winter vacation," adding, "It acts as a personal assistant."

MS, which has made large-scale investments in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has integrated generative AI technology into key products in its portfolio, starting with the Bing search engine and Edge web browser in February. Kevin Scott, CTO, said, "Over the next few years, this will become the expectation for how all software operates."

Additionally, MS plans to integrate the AI assistant Microsoft 365 Copilot, which helps with document tool tasks, into the Edge browser. As a result, users will be able to link MS programs that use ChatGPT technology while working on Word, Excel, and other tasks. Furthermore, MS will accelerate the expansion of the AI ecosystem by establishing plugin standards such as ChatGPT plugins.
