Gwack Geun-seok, Hamyang Bugunsu, Conducts On-site Inspection of Wild Ginseng Production Pilot Complex

Overall Inspection of Crop Conditions and Growth Status

Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam conducted an on-site inspection of the wild ginseng production pilot complex located in Wolpyeong-ri, Hucheon-myeon.

The inspection held on the 23rd was attended by five people including Deputy County Governor Kwak Geun-seok, Director of Safety and Construction Hong Hwa-seop, and Wild Ginseng Anti-Aging Division Chief Son Gi-uk, who checked the overall management status of the pilot complex.

The wild ginseng production pilot complex was established in 2013 in Wolpyeong-ri, Hucheon-myeon, Hamyang-gun, on a 22-hectare site as part of the ‘Sambongsan Ecological Mountain Herbal Complex Joint Forest Project’ in cooperation with the Western Regional Forest Service, and this year marks its 10th anniversary.

The county has been sowing and managing 1,818 kg of wild ginseng seeds and planting 4,400 four-year-old seedlings on 6.8 hectares of the site from 2014 to 2023.

Deputy County Governor Kwak ordered, “Please do your best to manage the overall conditions such as crop growth and health status in 26 zones divided by sowing year, and contribute to enhancing Hamyang-gun’s wild ginseng brand through special management for pure seed registration, supply of excellent seeds and seedlings, and use of the farmers’ education center.”

He also encouraged the temporary workers employed at the pilot complex and urged thorough safety management.

Meanwhile, since 2004, the county has specialized in wild ginseng cultivation to increase residents’ income by implementing altitude restrictions of over 500 meters, wild ginseng guardians, and production tracking systems, differentiating cultivation and management from other regions to produce premium wild ginseng. In April, Hamyang wild ginseng received the Korea Prestige and Premium Award in the regional brand category for five consecutive years.
