Student Gang Cheol-min Wins Gold Medal with Excellent Skills
The Department of Security and Protection at Gyeongnam National University won a total of six medals, including a gold medal, at the ‘33rd National Defense Judo Competition’ held on the 20th at the Jinhae District Community Center Gymnasium.
At this Gyeongsangnam-do representative judo competition, 11 members of the judo club ‘Yesim’ from the Department of Security and Protection at Gyeongnam National University participated.
In the men's college division, student Kang Cheol-min (Department of Security and Protection, Year 1) showcased excellent skills and took first place, earning the gold medal.
Following him, student Choi Min-seok (Department of Security and Protection, Year 1) won the silver medal by placing second, and student Shin Young-hoon (Department of Security and Protection, Year 1) earned the bronze medal by placing third, marking a remarkable achievement as the Department of Security and Protection at Gyeongnam National University swept the men's college division at this competition.
In the women's college division, student Yoo Jin (Department of Security and Protection, Year 1) won the silver medal by placing second, while students Choi Soo-bin (Department of Security and Protection, Year 2) and Kim Min-ji (Department of Security and Protection, Year 1) both earned bronze medals by placing third.
Student Kang Min-cheol said, “I am honored to have achieved good results in my first competition since entering university,” and added, “Based on the guidance of Professor Choi Pan-am, our advising professor, and other professors in the Department of Security and Protection, I will work even harder in club activities to achieve better results in larger competitions in the future.”
Professor Choi Pan-am of the Department of Security and Protection stated, “I am grateful to the athletes who enhanced the reputation of the school and department by achieving excellent results at the National Defense Judo Competition, which boasts one of the most prestigious traditions among regional competitions nationwide,” and added, “Starting from this competition, we will put more effort into improving the judo skills of club members so that they can also achieve good results at national competitions.”
Professor Cho Cheol-gyu of the Department of Security and Protection, who attended the competition, said, “I was deeply moved by the students’ efforts to achieve such excellent results,” and added, “I look forward to even better performances from the students in the future.”
