This program was established to promote early diagnosis and proper treatment of depression, to shift public awareness, and to encourage participation of neuropsychiatrists in the Blue Band campaign to raise awareness about depression.
Daeshinjeong, together with Ybrain, created the Blue Band depression campaign for the first time last year and has been continuously conducting various activities to urge nationwide interest. In particular, this year, to actively expand the campaign, April 4 was designated as ‘Day of Mind,’ and on the 22nd of last month, a Blue Band event venue was set up at the outdoor lawn plaza of Nodeul Island, attracting participation from about 600 members of the general public.
Daeshinjeong plans to expand the Blue Band campaign from patients and the general public to medical staff through this certified hospital program. The association expects that through the participation of domestic psychiatric hospitals and medical staff, the atmosphere for early diagnosis and treatment of depression can be spread. Hospitals wishing to participate in the program can apply through the participating hospital section on the Blue Band campaign website. Once the application is completed, the official certification process of the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association will be conducted, and the ‘Blue Band Depression Assessment and Treatment Certified Hospital’ plaque will be distributed to the respective hospital. Chong Kun Dang is also accepting applications, so hospitals wishing to participate can also apply through Chong Kun Dang representatives. Applications will start this month, and a total of 500 hospitals will be recruited.
Oh Kang-seop, chairman of Daeshinjeong, said, “Recently, the suicide rate among young people due to depression in Korea has reached a concerning level,” and added, “We hope that through this program, the participation of many medical staff in the Blue Band campaign will lead to safe and rapid treatment of depression.” Lee Ki-won, CEO of Ybrain, also stated, “To continuously expand the Blue Band campaign, we plan to continue introducing various programs together with Daeshinjeong,” and added, “Furthermore, based on the electronic medicine Mindsteem for depression, we will proceed with clinical trials for various forms of depression treatment across society following the COVID-19 depression clinical trials.”
