LG Electronics Signs Business Agreement to Reduce Microplastic Emissions

"Up to 70% Reduction in Microplastic Emissions with Care Course"

LG Electronics has partnered with the Korea Water Forum to develop practical solutions that reduce microplastic emissions and contribute to the protection of marine ecosystems.

On the 22nd, LG Electronics announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Water Forum at LG Science Park in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, to promote efforts to reduce microplastics. The Korea Water Forum is a leading organization in South Korea that drives international activities and stakeholder cooperation to address global water issues.

Through this agreement, LG Electronics and the Korea Water Forum plan to establish customer engagement processes for marine ecosystem conservation and collaborative systems for environmental research and development. Additionally, LG Electronics will introduce its ‘Microplastic Care Course’ at events and in content produced by the Korea Water Forum.

The Microplastic Care Course features Tromm washing machines’ unique 6-motion technology, which delivers delicate washing while maintaining cleaning performance and reduces microplastics generated from fabric friction during washing by up to 70%.

Since last month, LG Electronics has been offering an upgrade to add the Microplastic Care Course to its UP home appliance Tromm washing machines. To raise awareness and encourage more customers to use the Microplastic Care Course, a ‘Microplastic Care Challenge’ will be held starting next month. Prizes will be awarded based on the number of times the Microplastic Care Course is used during the challenge period.

Kim Young-rak, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Korea Sales Division, said, “We will continue to explore ways for customers to participate in realizing LG Electronics’ ESG vision of ‘Better Life for All’ not only through the Microplastic Care Course but also by using home appliances in their daily lives.”
