The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) condemned North Korea's ballistic missile launches and nuclear tests in a joint statement released on the 20th.
In the joint statement reflecting the outcomes of the G7 summit held in Hiroshima, Japan, the G7 leaders urged North Korea to "refrain from further nuclear tests and ballistic missile launches that pose a serious threat to international peace and security," warning that "such reckless actions will inevitably face a swift, unified, and strong international response."
They further demanded that "North Korea must completely, verifiably, and irreversibly abandon its nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programs," and that "other weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles must also comply with Security Council resolutions."
The G7 leaders also expressed concern over North Korea prioritizing the development of illegal weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles over the welfare of its people, emphasizing that it should respond to dialogue proposals from South Korea, the United States, and Japan.
They called on North Korea to respect human rights, allow access to international human rights organizations, and immediately resolve the abduction issue.
