[One Day Ten Thousand Steps, One Day Thousand Characters] Hopeful Handwriting for Youth and Urban Forest Support... Korail Distribution's ESG

KORAIL Distribution (CEO Kim Young-tae) held the ‘Thank You DREAM’ event on the 8th, delivering handwritten hopeful messages to young people. Organized by KORAIL Distribution’s Gyeongin Headquarters in celebration of Family Month, the event delivered over 100 handwritten cards containing messages of support for happiness in life with family and neighbors, as well as self-realization encouragement to youth. The event was arranged as a talent donation by calligrapher Kwon Si-young and Im Yoon-gi, business team leader of KORAIL Distribution Gyeongin Headquarters, creating works in calligraphy and other handwritten talents with phrases chosen by the young attendees and employees who visited the venue.

KORAIL Distribution is a subsidiary of Korea Railroad Corporation, operating ‘Storyway’ convenience stores, commercial facilities, vending machines, and advertising media at train stations nationwide and metropolitan subway stations. The company positions itself as a mobility service enterprise that has grown alongside railroads. Recently, it has been practicing ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) management through walking and handwritten messages for the environment and local communities.

Since CEO Kim Young-tae took office in April, the company has accelerated its ESG management efforts. CEO Kim emphasized, "Let us leap forward as a company leading the new future of mobility services," and added, "We must unite our efforts for continuous dedication to customers and innovation to realize the value of public interest and the common good." Subsequently, the ‘2023 2nd National ESG Promotion Committee’ was held to commit to ongoing ESG management and faithfully fulfill social responsibilities.

On May 18, a business agreement ceremony was held with the nonprofit organization Life Forest to create urban forests, along with a donation. The donation for forest creation will be used for tree-planting activities to build forests where various organisms coexist, capable of storing carbon and reducing fine dust in urban areas. Urban forest creation projects utilize idle spaces as green areas to improve urban living environments and build healthy urban ecosystems by △reducing fine dust and mitigating urban heat island effects △addressing green space inequality in underserved areas △expanding urban park infrastructure.

On the 16th, a joint donation of 7 million KRW was made by young employees and labor-management at the Yeongdeungpo Disabled Welfare Center in Yeongdeungpo-gu to support the social contribution program Wheel The Trip. Wheel The Trip is a compound of ‘Wheel’ and ‘Trip,’ designed as a program that allows socially vulnerable groups using wheelchairs, strollers, and walkers to participate comfortably. This support aims to help people with disabilities using the Yeongdeungpo Disabled Welfare Center and their families visit accessible locations to relieve everyday stress. On the 24th, about 150 participants will visit herb farms and healing cafes in the Taean-gun area of Chungnam Province.
