Yoon Attends Expanded G7 Summit... Sequential Bilateral Talks with India, UK, and Italy (Comprehensive)

Attendance at Food, Health, Development, and Gender Sessions and Climate, Energy, and Environment Sessions

President Yoon Suk-yeol, on the second day of his visit to Hiroshima, Japan, on the 20th, will attend the expanded session of the Group of Seven (G7) summit and hold a series of bilateral meetings with the leaders of India, the United Kingdom, and Italy.


On this day, President Yoon will participate in the expanded session of the G7 summit as an observer country invited by Japan, the G7 chair nation, and deliver a public speech.


In addition to the member countries of the G7, including the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, and France, observer countries invited to this G7 summit include South Korea, Vietnam, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Comoros, the Cook Islands, and Australia.


President Yoon is expected to attend the sessions on food, health, development, and gender, as well as the sessions on climate, energy, and environment, where he will emphasize the need for strengthened global cooperation on these issues and express the South Korean government's intention to expand its contributions.


Discussions are also expected regarding the rule-based international order and engagement policies toward emerging developing countries, which Japan, as the chair nation, has presented as key agenda items.


On the same day, President Yoon will hold separate bilateral meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.


Earlier, upon arriving in Hiroshima, Japan, the previous day, President Yoon held bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Norman Albanese and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. South Korea and Australia agreed to cooperate to promote regional peace, stabilize global supply chains, and strengthen defense and defense industry sectors.


During the South Korea-Vietnam summit, the two leaders discussed ways to enhance South Korea-Vietnam relations and South Korea-ASEAN cooperation. They also talked about common issues between the two countries, including trade, official development assistance (ODA), and Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) projects.
