Afternoon of the 19th, Departure to Japan... Planned Meeting with Korean Atomic Bomb Victims
President Yoon Suk-yeol departed on the 19th for a 3-day, 2-night trip to Hiroshima, Japan, to attend the Group of Seven (G7) summit. President Yoon is scheduled to hold bilateral summit meetings not only at the official G7 sessions but also with Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, Vietnam, India, and Indonesia. For the first time in history, a South Korean president plans to meet with Korean atomic bomb survivors residing in Japan in Hiroshima.
On the same day in the afternoon, President Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon-hee departed for Japan from Seongnam Airport in Seoul aboard Air Force One. President Yoon boarded the presidential aircraft, receiving a send-off from Han Chang-seop, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; Kim Ki-hyun, leader of the People Power Party; Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader; Kim Dae-gi, Chief Presidential Secretary; Jang Ho-jin, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs; Koichi Aiboshi, Japanese Ambassador to Korea; and Lee Jin-bok, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs.

At this expanded G7 summit, President Yoon is expected to speak on global issues such as food security, security, climate, and energy development. There is also a possibility of discussions on the key topics of "international order based on the rule of law" and "engagement policies toward emerging developing countries."
The South Korean and Japanese leaders will sit down at the table again after just two weeks. This will be the third meeting this year following President Yoon’s visit to Tokyo in March and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s visit to Seoul on the 7th. A trilateral summit among South Korea, the United States, and Japan is also expected to take place during the G7 summit. This will mark another meeting between President Yoon and U.S. President Joe Biden less than a month after President Yoon’s state visit to the United States.
Additionally, President Yoon will hold bilateral summit meetings in Hiroshima with leaders from Vietnam, Australia, India, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom. On the first day, the 19th, he will meet separately with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. However, due to the G7 summit schedule, there is a possibility that additional bilateral meetings may be added or some existing ones canceled. The Blue House stated, "Due to the nature of multilateral meetings, even confirmed bilateral schedules may be suddenly adjusted."
