ChatGPT Expands Reach to Mobile... OpenAI Launches iPhone App

OpenAI has launched the ChatGPT mobile app, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. The activity domain of generative AI, which asks and answers like a human, has expanded from the web to mobile.

On the 18th (local time), OpenAI announced on its blog that it would release the ChatGPT app for iPhone (iOS). This is the first mobile app for ChatGPT since its launch last November. Until now, ChatGPT was only accessible online through OpenAI's website.

The app is currently available only in the United States. In the coming weeks, the release will be expanded to other countries, and an Android version will also be launched. Mira Murati, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), said on Twitter, "The Android version will be released soon."

The ChatGPT app supports voice recognition. Until now, conversations on the web were only possible through text input. OpenAI introduced, "Input is possible not only by text but also by voice," adding, "Through the app, users can receive immediate answers to questions or personalized advice such as travel planning."

In the future, if the ChatGPT app is combined with plugins, it can evolve into a conversational assistant that handles all tasks. OpenAI has released 'ChatGPT Plugins' to connect ChatGPT with other services such as shopping and restaurant reservations. Currently, 70 companies, including Expedia for flight and hotel reservations, Instacart for grocery delivery, and OpenTable for restaurant reservations, have joined the plugin platform. When the ChatGPT app and plugins are linked, it will be possible to make restaurant reservations and shop through a single app using voice or text input.

OpenAI emphasized, "Through the ChatGPT app for iPhone, we are taking one step closer to our mission by continuously improving accessibility so that people can use cutting-edge research usefully."
