'Meeting with the Author' Event Video Posted
Attention on Future Moon YouTube Activities

Former President Moon Jae-in's 'Pyeongsan Bookstore' has started full-scale activities by launching a YouTube channel, despite previous controversies over 'passion pay.'

According to YouTube on the 19th, the bookstore 'Pyeongsan Bookstore,' which Moon opened last month for the purpose of a 'public interest project,' has launched a YouTube channel of the same name. The 'Pyeongsan Bookstore' (@pyeongsanbooks) channel description reads, "Pyeongsan Bookstore is always with you who dream of change through books."

There is only one video released on this channel so far. It is a sketch video of the 'Meeting with the Author' event held on the 27th of last month, where author Jung Ji-a, who wrote the novel Father's Liberation Diary (2021), visited Pyeongsan Bookstore and interacted with former President Moon and his wife, as well as local residents. The channel registration date is confirmed to be the day after the event. Attention is focused on whether former President Moon will frequently appear on the channel and develop activities as a 'YouTuber' in the future.

The 'Pyeongsan Bookstore' YouTube channel gathered over 2,700 subscribers within about 12 hours of the first video release and is showing an upward trend. Supporters have already flocked to the video, leaving welcoming comments such as, "It looks like a peaceful space resembling the bookstore keeper," "Glad to see Ini Ssu-gi (a nickname for former President Moon and his wife) here," and "Always thankful and love you."

Pyeongsan Bookstore has been posting updates about the bookstore by consecutively opening official accounts on its website, Instagram, and Facebook social networking services (SNS). The number of followers on Instagram and Facebook are approximately 14,000 and 2,000, respectively.

On its website, the bookstore stated, "For visitors, it serves as both a bookstore and a resting space, where activities such as reading good books together through book friends or reading clubs and meeting authors can be enjoyed."

Meanwhile, the earlier recruitment of volunteers by Pyeongsan Bookstore sparked controversy over 'passion pay.' On the 5th, Pyeongsan Bookstore announced via SNS that it was recruiting morning, afternoon, and full-day volunteers to work at the bookstore.

However, it was criticized for only providing food to full-day volunteers and offering goods and snacks instead of compensation for their activities, leading to accusations of 'passion pay.' Ultimately, the bookstore withdrew the volunteer recruitment three days later, admitting, "It seems we were overly ambitious."
