Kishida: "Japan-US Cooperation Extends Beyond Security to All Fields"

"Remarkable Progress in Economic Cooperation"

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated that "the Japan-US alliance is the cornerstone of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region."


According to major media outlets, Prime Minister Kishida made these remarks during the Japan-US summit meeting with US President Joe Biden held in Hiroshima on the 18th, a day before the opening of the Group of Seven (G7) summit. He emphasized that "the Japan-US relationship is not limited to the security sector but is a multilayered and robust cooperative relationship across all fields."

Prime Minister Kishida cited the remarkable progress in Japan-US cooperation in the economic sector, mentioning as an example the American semiconductor company Micron's efforts in advanced semiconductor research and development (R&D) and manufacturing in Hiroshima.


As an example of Japan-US economic cooperation, he pointed to the joint review by the Japanese government and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States to establish a "Global Startup Campus" in central Tokyo to support technological innovation and the startup ecosystem.


Furthermore, Prime Minister Kishida explained the significance of this G7 summit by saying, "We want to demonstrate the G7's unwavering commitment to uphold the 'free and open international order based on the rule of law' that Japan and the US have jointly advocated."
