Kim Hyun-ki, Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, attended the '43rd Anniversary Seoul Commemoration Ceremony of the May 18 Democratic Uprising' held at Cheonggye Plaza at 10 a.m. on the 18th.

In his commemorative speech, Chairperson Kim said, “Today we live in was the tomorrow that the democratic spirits longed for 43 years ago, and the liberal democracy we enjoy like air is the future protected by the sweat and blood of nameless heroes 43 years ago.” He added, “I pay tribute to the noble patriotism of the May 18 democratic spirits who sacrificed their lives for the future of our homeland.”

He also stated, “The Seoul Metropolitan Council, a symbol of parliamentary democracy in the Republic of Korea, has also opened the way for a new era by following the milestones of freedom, democracy, and justice,” and “We will carry forward the spirit of May 18 as a spirit of reconciliation and unity.”
