The Group of Seven (G7) major countries have decided to warn that nations providing weapons to Russia, which invaded Ukraine, will face severe consequences.
On the 17th, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported, citing Japanese government officials, that the G7 will issue such a warning at the summit to be held from the 19th to the 21st in Hiroshima, Japan.
According to the report, the G7's draft individual statement on Ukraine states, "We will continue to unite to further weaken Russia's illegal aggression capabilities by imposing sanctions and other economic measures."
They are expected to immediately call on third countries supplying weapons and other support to Russia to stop, warning that failure to comply will result in serious consequences.
This measure is interpreted as targeting countries such as Iran and China.
Since August last year, Iran has provided more than 400 drones to Russia. China is reportedly considering weapon support.
The G7 plans to restrict transactions of Russian diamonds to reduce Russia's sources of income and gradually reduce dependence on Russian energy.
On the other hand, regarding Ukraine, the statement includes the effort to "continue to make Russia pay reparations for the long-term revival of Ukraine."
The G7 countries are coordinating a policy to freeze Russian assets until Russia compensates for the damages caused to Ukraine.
On the first day of the summit session, the G7 will address the Ukraine issue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also scheduled to participate online.
