Bluepoint Partners Presents Venture Documentary 'Betting'
Startup accelerator Bluepoint Partners has produced a documentary highlighting the venture industry in South Korea. The aim is to explore the significance and role of startups, which are gaining attention as new engines of economic growth, and the venture investment ecosystem that supports their growth.
Bluepoint Partners announced that it will hold a screening of the venture documentary "BETTING" on the 18th. This documentary, prepared over approximately two years by Bluepoint, consists of three episodes. The first episode, "Boom and Bubble," covers the early 2000s venture boom and IT bubble up to the recent second venture boom. A key difference between past venture booms and the present is the emergence of accelerators that help early-stage startups grow. The film examines the role of accelerators and the significance of startups that have grown into unicorns.
The second episode focuses on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), which has become a trend, and how changes in the investment ecosystem present opportunities and values for startups. It highlights startups developing technologies for coexistence and solving social problems. The third episode sheds light on entrepreneurs challenging an uncertain future and the role of venture capital investing in them.
Since its establishment in 2014, Bluepoint Partners has been active as a leading accelerator in South Korea. As of last year, it has invested in over 250 startups, whose combined corporate value exceeds 4 trillion won. Ninety percent of the companies invested in over the past three years are still operating. Notable examples include Plazmap, a manufacturer of medical sterilizers; Tomocube, a developer of three-dimensional microscopes; and Starstech, which produces eco-friendly de-icing agents using starfish. Key investors and entrepreneurs from South Korea's startup ecosystem also participated as interviewees in this documentary. These include Bluepoint’s CEO Yongkwan Lee and Vice CEO Yonggeon Kim, Primer CEO Dokyun Kwon, Meshup Angels CEO Taekkyung Lee, Kakao Ventures CEO Jinha Ahn, SoPoong Ventures CEO Sangyeop Han, LB Investment CEO Kiho Park, Tomocube CEO Gihyun Hong, Zigbang CEO Sungwoo Ahn, and Wantedlab CEO Bokgi Lee.
A Bluepoint Partners representative explained, "The documentary tells the stories of people who turn uncertainty into opportunity." The documentary is currently under negotiation for release on online video streaming services (OTT) and other platforms. The distribution channels will be decided soon.
