Unexpected Driver Swap... "My Pet Dog Was Driving" Denial

American Man Gives Absurd Excuse After Drunk Driving Arrest
Police Joke, "The Dog Was Released Without Charges"

In the United States, a man was arrested after being caught for drunk driving when he placed his pet dog, who was in the passenger seat, in the driver's seat and tried to deny responsibility by claiming "my pet dog was driving."

On the 16th (local time), the Springfield Police in Colorado announced that this incident occurred around 11:30 PM on the 13th on a road in the area during a DUI checkpoint.

The police spotted a speeding vehicle traveling at 52 miles per hour (84 km/h), well above the posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour (48 km/h), and pulled the car over to the shoulder.

A man was in the driver's seat, and as the officer approached the car, he attempted to switch places with the pet dog in the passenger seat. Also, when the officer came near the car, the man got out from the passenger side and claimed that he was not the one driving.

The police said the man appeared intoxicated, and when asked about drinking, he tried to flee. However, he moved about 18 meters before ultimately being arrested by the police.

Upon checking his identity, it was found that the man already had two outstanding arrest warrants for other criminal charges. He was taken into custody to serve those warrants and was charged with drunk driving, speeding, and resisting arrest.

The police joked, "The dog at the scene was temporarily entrusted to a friend of the man for care," adding, "The dog was not charged with any offense and was released with just a warning."
