Announcement on July 19 on Seoul City Website... Expanding Information Access Opportunities for the Disabled
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is recruiting applicants for the ‘Information and Communication Assistive Device Distribution Project’ until June 23.
The district aims to expand information access opportunities and bridge the information gap for disabled individuals who have difficulties using information and communication devices such as computers by distributing assistive devices and specialized software.
The distributed items include a total of 125 types of information and communication assistive devices tailored to disability types: 66 types such as reading magnifiers and Braille information terminals for the visually impaired; 22 types such as touch monitors and specialized mice for those with physical or brain lesions; and 37 types such as communication assistive devices and video phones for the hearing and speech impaired.
Applicants must be registered disabled persons under the ‘Disabled Welfare Act’ or national veterans who have been assessed with a disability rating.
Applicants who reside in Gwangjin-gu according to their resident registration must prepare the required documents and submit them by visiting the Dong community center or the Gwangjin-gu Office Smart Information Division, or by mail. Online applications can be made through the Information and Communication Assistive Device website.
After applying, Seoul City’s in-depth counselors will conduct home visits to assess the suitability of the assistive devices. Based on the consultation, experts will comprehensively consider factors such as disability rating, economic conditions, participation level, previous distribution frequency, and utilization to select recipients.
A total of 740 residents of Seoul are expected to be selected as recipients, and the list will be announced on July 19 on the Seoul City website. Recipients only need to pay 20% of the device price, with 80% supported by the government. Disabled persons who are basic livelihood security recipients or belong to the lower-income bracket will receive an additional 50% subsidy on their personal payment.
For more details, contact the Gwangjin-gu Smart Information Division or the consultation phone line, or check the Information and Communication Assistive Device website.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We hope that the distribution of assistive devices will enable disabled individuals to use information and communication devices conveniently,” and added, “Gwangjin-gu will continue to strive to implement various projects to bridge the information gap for the disabled.”
