Sunchang-gun to Conduct 'Safety Transformation Intensive Inspection' Until the 16th of Next Month

Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk Province, will conduct an intensive safety inspection called the ‘Korea Safety Grand Transition’ (formerly the National Safety Diagnosis) targeting 90 facilities within the jurisdiction until the 16th of next month.

According to the county on the 16th, this inspection is a preventive activity under a new name for the ‘National Safety Diagnosis,’ which has been carried out annually since 2015 following the Sewol ferry disaster. It is a joint public-private effort to inspect major facilities closely related to residents' lives, eliminate risk factors, and assess the overall safety management status of society.

Sunchang-gun will conduct an "Intensive Safety Inspection for the Great Safety Transformation of Korea" targeting 90 facilities within the jurisdiction until the 16th of next month.

Recently, the county conducted focused safety inspections on the cantilever-structured Goejeonggyo and Gusongjeonggyo bridges under its management. The safety inspection on this day involved the Sunchang Deputy County Governor, the Head of the Safety and Disaster Department, private experts, and other officials, utilizing various scientific and technological equipment including drones to ensure a thorough safety inspection.

A cantilever structure refers to a structure fixed at only one side without supporting columns at the other end, also called an ‘oepalbo’ (one-arm beam). It also serves as a sunshade, so many people often pass underneath.

During the remaining inspection period, the county will focus on the structural safety of facilities and the convenience of bridge users. Issues that can be corrected on-site will be immediately addressed, and if any serious defects or risk factors are found, urgent safety measures such as prompt repair, reinforcement, or usage prohibition will be implemented.
