Geelong is the second largest city in Victoria, Australia, after the capital Melbourne, and is famous worldwide for its natural scenery, consistently included in the TOP 10 must-visit places. Hanwha Aerospace is building a production facility on a 150,000㎡ site capable of manufacturing K-9 self-propelled howitzers and ammunition transport armored vehicles in this city.

Changwon City and Geelong City signed an international sister city agreement in 2022, coinciding with the groundbreaking ceremony of Hanwha Aerospace’s armored vehicle production center, to strengthen global urban competitiveness and promote industrial and economic revitalization through active cooperation in the defense and hydrogen sectors.

Yang Hee-chang, Special Advisor on Defense Industry and Nuclear Energy, said, “Australia is a United Nations participant country in the Korean War that played a significant role in protecting our country and is our strategic security cooperation partner. Geelong is a city deeply connected to Korea in many ways, with Korean companies building local production plants and the Geelong Korea team, composed mainly of Korean players, actively participating in the Australian professional baseball league.” He added, “Through this visit, we hope to continue exchanges with Geelong not only in the defense and hydrogen industrial and economic sectors but also in various other fields.”
