UNIST·UCLA Smart Health Center Hosts Digital Healthcare Medical Data Competition

The medical data-based digital solution competition, ‘Digital Healthcare Challenge by UNIST X UCLA Center for SMART Health,’ will open applications for participants (teams) starting from the 18th.

The competition is jointly hosted by the UNIST Smart Healthcare Center and the UCLA Center for SMART Health.

This competition is open to all entities, including companies, research labs, and individuals based in Korea, who have developed and validated digital solutions based on Korean medical data.

Digital solutions refer to in silico medical devices developed using artificial intelligence and data science that provide patient-specific predictions for disease diagnosis, prognosis, treatment response, screening, and more.

The winner(s) (team) of the competition will be given the opportunity to validate their submitted solutions using data from UCLA Health, one of the top medical institutions in the United States.

Applications will be accepted from the 18th until June 30th, and applicants must submit their application forms online according to the prescribed format.

More detailed information about the event and how to apply can be found on the Digital Healthcare Challenge by UNIST X UCLA Center for SMART Health website, or inquiries can be made via phone or email.

Additionally, Dr. Arash Naeim, Director of the UCLA Clinical and Translational Research Institute and the Center for SMART Health, said, “Healthcare data science innovation is currently happening worldwide,” and “Through collaboration with UNIST, this will be a great opportunity to compare different patient populations in Korea and the U.S. and to demonstrate and validate innovations between healthcare systems.”

Participants (teams) will be evaluated from July to August by experts affiliated with the UNIST and UCLA Centers for SMART Health based on the submitted applications.

The evaluation criteria include patient health improvement, impact on the healthcare market, product readiness, and applicability to UCLA medical data.

The selected final winner(s) (team) will work with the UNIST and UCLA Centers for SMART Health from September to December to further tune and validate their solutions using UCLA medical data.

This project is promoted with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT’s international cooperation project and LG Uplus.
