Hi and the Daegu Office of Education are starting the main project to develop self-regulation abilities using Ppomi for elementary schools in the Daegu area. Approximately 90 teachers from 46 schools that applied to participate in this year’s project attended the briefing held on the 10th.
Ppomi is a service developed to improve children’s self-regulation abilities. It has been developed over five years by Hi and Professor Shin Euijin of Yonsei University Severance Hospital. Originally developed as auxiliary software to enhance self-regulation abilities in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the service content and functions have been expanded to be usable by general children through the project with the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education.
Unlike typical scheduler-type services, Ppomi helps children form self-regulation abilities by planning, executing, and evaluating their own behavior independently. It is designed to be used by children on their own without parental or external assistance, proceeding through conversations with a voice agent.
The Daegu Office of Education’s self-regulation ability enhancement habit program project conducted two pilot projects targeting elementary school students in the Daegu area from 2021 until January of this year. The briefing introduced results such as ‘habit formation in daily life,’ ‘confidence improvement,’ and ‘reduction of ADHD symptoms,’ and demonstrated the Ppomi service to attendees. Afterwards, participating teachers had the opportunity to try using Ppomi themselves.
Following the pilot projects, this main project will be conducted in three phases in May and June during the first half of the year, and in September during the second half. Hi has established an operational environment capable of supporting over 200 users per school, with a total participation of more than 10,000 users for this project.
Kim Jinwoo, CEO of Hi, said, “We are pleased to implement the main project after improving the service and operational issues identified in the previous two pilot projects. We are confident that through using Ppomi, students will develop self-regulation abilities, parents will experience reduced parenting stress, and teachers will see improved academic engagement.” A representative from the Daegu Office of Education also stated, “Ppomi is a service that can provide practical help to elementary students in forming basic life habits. Based on the results of this year’s main project, we plan to gradually expand the number of participating schools.”
