LG Uplus announced on the 16th that it will implement 'zero-rating,' providing free data usage when accessing job search websites.
Zero-rating is an operational policy where a telecommunications provider does not charge for data usage incurred when accessing specific websites or services. Considering the increasing difficulties faced by consumers due to continuous inflation, LG Uplus decided to apply zero-rating in support of the government's price stabilization measures.
LG Uplus took into account that young people preparing for employment frequently access job search websites to obtain information and decided to apply zero-rating to government-operated job search sites. Based on visitor numbers and employment information availability from last year, 10 sites were selected. Zero-rating will initially be applied for about one year until April 30, 2024, and the company plans to analyze customer usage patterns to consider extension and expansion in the future.
The 10 sites include Worknet, Job Training Portal, National Employment Support System, Public Institution Recruitment Information System (Alio), World Job Plus, Jobaba, Nara Ilteo, Seoul Job Portal, Employment Welfare Plus Center, and Disabled Employment Portal.
In addition to this job search site zero-rating, LG Uplus plans to explore various measures to reduce customers' communication fee burdens. Following the introduction of mid-tier 5G plans priced between 60,000 and 70,000 KRW in the first half of this year, LG Uplus launched youth and senior plans. In the second half of this year, it also promised to provide a monthly 5GB data voucher until the child reaches 24 months of age for families busy with childcare after childbirth.
