On the 24th, "Navigating a New Prosperity for Local Areas in the Era of Regional Extinction"
Keynote Presentations by Professors Jeon Young-su and Jung Seok, Special Lecture by Lee Jung-soo, Panel Discussion, and More
As the nationwide ultra-low birthrate and population decline are leading to national survival issues and the extinction of local areas, a forum for experts and young people to discuss these concerns will be held in Pohang.
Pohang City will host the "Pohang City Population Policy, Youth Symposium" on the 24th from 2 PM at the POSCO International Hall, 1st floor International Conference Room.
Under the theme "Navigating New Prosperity for Local Areas in the Era of Local Extinction," the symposium will begin with an opening ceremony, followed by Part 1 where Professor Jeon Young-su of Hanyang University will present on "Local Extinction and Localism," and Professor Jung Seok of the University of Seoul will speak on "Happier Local Communities."
In the subsequent special lecture, housewife author and comedian Lee Jung-soo will deliver a talk titled "Are You Welcomed by Your Family?" conveying the importance of family and home in the era of low birthrates.
In Part 2, a panel discussion involving youth and citizens in their 30s and 40s will exchange vivid opinions on the current status and future of Pohang City's population policy.
Chaired by Lee Jae-won, President of the Pohang Studies Association and adjunct professor at POSTECH Convergence Civilization Research Institute, the discussion will feature Kim Cheol-gyu, Student Council President of Handong University, speaking on "Why Do Youths Ignore Local Areas?"; Kwak Jung-won, former Student Council President of Uiduk University, on "Pohang Population Policy, Youth Speak Out"; Choi Eun-joo on "Current and Future Pohang Population Policy from a Mother's Perspective"; and Jung So-yoon on "Employment and Marriage, What Is the Problem?" engaging in a lively debate.
Policy Planning Officer Bae Seong-ho stated, "Since the causes of low birthrates are intertwined with complex socio-economic factors and countries worldwide are struggling to find solutions, this symposium involving experts and local youth will be a valuable opportunity to diagnose Pohang's situation and suggest feasible directions for resolution," urging active participation from citizens.
