Over 100 Households, 7 Items Including Formaldehyde

The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute will begin indoor air quality inspections of newly constructed apartment complexes from May through November this year.

The inspection targets are two newly constructed apartment complexes with more than 100 units each, scheduled for occupancy in Nam-gu and Jung-gu.

The inspection items include seven substances such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, and radon, which are harmful substances emitted from building materials and finishes.

These substances, originating from building materials and finishes in newly constructed apartment complexes, can cause atopic dermatitis and respiratory diseases.

A representative from the Ulsan Health and Environment Research Institute stated, “We will continuously conduct indoor air quality inspections of newly constructed apartment complexes to ensure residents can move in without worries about sick building syndrome.”

Last year, the Health and Environment Research Institute conducted indoor air quality inspections at newly constructed apartment complexes in Nam-gu and Ulju-gun, with all 25 measured units at inspection points deemed ‘suitable.’
